How did you decide to go into your field?
Growing up, I always felt a lot of empathy for others and knew I wanted to pursue a field of study that helped people heal. In my early twenties, as I began training to be a nurse and EMT, my perspective of Western medicine started to shift. From clinical experience, I noticed patients returning to the hospital time and time again whose only course of treatment was more medication. What I came to understand was that for many individuals, the root cause of their suffering was not being addressed – and it was from that revelation that I began seeking alternative solutions. My interest in Chinese Medicine grew from there – and as I followed the path of TCM, I witnessed miracles in healing, both physical AND emotional. I feel excited and grateful to have found a medicine that treats the root cause and helps individuals to truly heal!
What makes you excited about your work?
I love this field because I don’t like to see people suffer. As an acupuncturist I am able to help individuals move from suffering to relief, peace, and even joy! So many people believe they just have to deal with their ailments – or struggle to find a solution – and it doesn’t have to be that way!
What makes you unique in your field?
I feel able to relate to my patients on many levels with compassion as a practitioner. I attended acupuncture school in South Florida for nearly five years – a true melting pot of cultures – and learned to be creative in how I incorporated Chinese medicine into myriad cultures and lifestyles. I am able to see the person on my table as a whole person – not just as a patient – and am able to provide a unique treatment for each individual person.
Favorite musician? Favorite food? Favorite TV show this year?
I like mellow music like Jack Johnson or Trevor Hall. Tacos. I honestly don’t watch much tv because I love to read and be outdoors!
