In Chinese Medicine, there are five natural elements that exist within us, just as they do in nature. Each season is associated with one element and has a unique connection with 2 meridians – a yin and a yang organ. By paying attention to nature’s patterns and cycles, we learn how to support our health and stay well all year round.
Winter in Chinese medicine

Winter is the season to slow down and conserve energy.
Whatever your winter hibernation might look like, take this time to replenish your resources that have been used throughout the year. Recharge your battery (aka your kidney energy) by getting more sleep, staying hydrated, keeping the skin covered, staying warm and eating seasonal foods.
Eating in winter:
Think of foods that have dark colors, salty flavors, and are hydrating and nourishing. Examples include nuts, seeds, legumes, shellfish, salt water fish, seaweed, dark-colored berries, root vegetables, whole grains, stews and soups. Eat warm and cooked foods and limit cold and raw foods. Use warming spices like garlic, ginger, cinnamon and cardamom.
Stay healthy through the seasons with Chinese medicine!
