Five Element Acupuncture
This type of acupuncture refers to the five phases of Qi as it moves through the body and uses the different elements (wood, water, fire, earth, and wind) as a framework to evaluate and treat an individual. Many symptoms may look the same, but often the underlying cause is different for every patient.
Understanding each person’s unique constitution and the different ways in which their Qi presents itself, is how Five Element acupuncture works to find the root cause of dis-ease and imbalance.
When our Qi is unbalanced, we may find ourselves sick, tired, and depleted. When balanced however, our Qi helps keep us healthy, vital, and strong!
How It Helps
SImilar to the Traditional Chinese Medicine approach, Five Element acupuncture really shines by reducing stress and balancing our internal systems.
Using the innate brilliance of our bodies, Five Element acupuncture promotes more rest, more healing, calmer minds, and stronger bodies. Using words like “balancing” and “aligning” we are attempting to simply say, “you will feel better in your body and mind” with Five Element acupuncture.
The treatment has to be experienced in order to fully appreciate the magic that is this ancient modality.
Who It’s For
- Emotional support, including depression, anxiety, stress, and grief
- Physical imbalances such as inflammation, digestive issues, fatigue, pain, and sleep disorders
- Preventative medicine such as immune support, healthy aging, and relief from seasonal allergies
- Chronic or acute pain associated with injury
What to Expect
During a Five Element acupuncture session at SHÈN, your practitioner will spend time with you as a person, not just a collection of symptoms. Information about how you’re feeling in your body - both today and in the past - is gathered and taken into consideration as a treatment plan is formulated. Five Element protocols also evaluate your particular constitution and how imbalances of Qi may be affecting your overall health.
Hair-thin needles are then placed at precise points along “meridians” throughout the body - stimulating circulation, organ function, and internal balance. Cupping and Moxa may also be incorporated into this gentle, restorative treatment.
